The inapproately named "Assault Weapons" ban represents the greatest threat to firearm freedoms in this country. The ban was introduced and passed largely due to efforts by the, also inappropriately named, "Violence Policy Center" -- an organization that has nothing to do with violence policy in any form whatsoever, rather their goal seems to be total disarmament of the American population and eventually, the world.

With the help of the news media, Michael Moore, and other second-rate celebrities, the "Violence Policy Center" has been able to scare many Americans into fearing the very word, "gun." The people that the VPC preys on are the type who believe they would never own a gun and certainly would not have the slightest idea of what to do in a defensive situation. It is easy to scare these people as they do not want to accept responsibility for their own safety.

Cowards are found the world over, which explains why various forms firearm banning has been successful in most of Europe, Australia, Canada, Africa, Japan, China, Cuba, and on and on. These are nations who are not only occupied by cowards, but ruled by them as well.

Tyrannical governments know that their people will accept a far greater degree of injustice when they are disarmed. The cowardly rulers, having been elected, appointed, or otherwise supported by cowardly people, have no control over criminals who continue to arm themselves and commit mayhem with no regard to the society or government at large. The criminals are largely cowards, as well, as they would not be able to operate with nearly as much success if their intended victims were able and willing to properly defend themselves. And so the sickening cycle churns on.

The "Assault Weapons" ban is set to automatically repeal itself in September unless the "Violence Policy Center" and other snivelers can renew or enact an even stricter bill. If the ban successfully sunsets, the VPC will pursue similar bans on a state-by-state basis.

The question now is whether those of us who understand the true meaning of the Second Amendment will stand up to bullies like the VPC, local news media, schoolteachers, neighbors, and all of the other whiners who would lead us down the road to hell with their good intentions.

The most effective way to do this is to arm yourself with the facts and engage in friendly verbal warfare whenever feasible. The ultimate goal, of course, is to win the hearts and minds of those who mean well but have been emotionally manipulated. Patience, understanding, humor, and persistence are crucial.

Failure to act surely means that we are the bigger cowards.
